Four young-but-committed musicians assemble a psychedelic Action! plan

The four men of Norman psychedelic rock band action! are babies, relatively speaking.

Each piece of the quartet - Zach Nedbalek Ben Murdaugh, Travis Pierce and Geo Morgan - is only 20 years old. However, let Action! 'S children act as a deterrent, the baby faces belie a collective experience and unprecedented unity by most local brothers in the group.
In fact, these are not just kids who thought it would be great to be in a band, although that is certainly part of the image. These are the high school jazz banders - Students of style and theory, competent and prolific musicians and, perhaps most important, advocates of experimentation.
"We're young," said Nedbalek. "We maintain an overactive imagination."
Under-the-RADAR EVENTS
Culled from various acts under the radar Norman - including Samurai Nedbalek of conquerors and Rank of Wesghetti Murdaugh - Action! is a decisive step for its members.
"Action! Is different from anything we have done previously, since it combines and borrows from everything we've played before," said Nedbalek. "Finally we are all on the same page creatively, work well together, and have put more effort into this project than almost any other thing we have begun. The result is something familiar but completely original. It's a good mix of organic and electronic sounds - a bit of everything I've heard, at a time. "
The experience, along with a lot of free time - Nedbalek musical production studios at the University of Central Oklahoma Academy of Contemporary Music, and the rest of the boys are "on hold" and working part time - means of action! obtains the devotion that many fledgling acts never receive.
"We have to devote much of our time as possible to make music," said Nedbalek, a fact evidenced by the amount of music the band produces.
Although the group was formed just a year ago, Action! is celebrating its second album release. His first was completed in July, just before the band's second time show.
"We write something new almost every time we play together and have from day one," said Nedbalek. "We try to keep track of everything you play, so we have an almost endless list of jams in the list, waiting to be structured into complete songs. Each show offered to play at least one new song. We have quite a collection decent gear, and produce our own records, so the relatively rapid release of a second album. "
CELEBRATION PRESS
On Friday, Action! celebrate the launch of the new album, still untitled at Opolis. Also on the list are popular indie artist Norman John Calvin and the Red Alert, a band from Tulsa, whose members were real children, when they began.
Nedbalek the action! 'S time does not permit free greeting too.
"Every time you write a song, it gets better writing songs, so you never quite stop," he said. "There is an element of spontaneity that gives our music personality. We'll have a third release by next summer."
It seems safe to predict this fervor is here to stay. The benefit of youthful energy, however, Action! 'S members have been a part of music since childhood, and will continue over the coming years. In fact, there are large, though vague, plans on the horizon.
"I love to play professionally, but the local music scene has been and always will be a great influence, no matter where I am in my career," said Nedbalek. "We have a drive to create music together, and the best way to experience that with a group mentality rather than one of competition. Playing in bands and recorded music are my favorite things to do on this planet, and any success that could be in a band or a producer is only used to raise the rest of our community and friends. "
